francesca lanzavecchia and hunn wai of the italian-singaporean studio lanzavecchia wai, have designed ‘fragmented 01 02’, a series of furniture types which replace the solid side panels of typical storage units with bands of flexible fabric. this material choice not only creates a textural pleated surface, but on a practical level, it allows the units to be accessed from all sides, at any point.
‘fragmented 02’ is considered dual-purpose furniture - stacking storage and seating modules - whose identity is activated by the environment the user moves and places it in. using it becomes a tactile experience of running your fingers over its pleated surface, stretching the openings to access the inner storage area. when not used as occasional seating, the individual units can be stacked to a form a multi-tiered storage object.
